Dear OPCEA Member:
On behalf of the Ontario Pollution Equipment Control Association (OPCEA), we would like to thank you for your support over the last year. Your support has meant a lot to the association and has allowed OPCEA to continue our services and be a vocal advocate for our members.
We would like to make you aware of some important dates for the upcoming 2023 – 2024 membership year. Please see below:

Max Rao, Aquafy Water Technologies – 2023 OPCEA Exhibition Lead
Once again, the 2023 Annual OPCEA Exhibition was a resounding success. With 109 exhibitors
showcasing equipment and services represented by the OPCEA membership, a great environment was
created whereby delegates, visitors and equipment suppliers could discuss the latest in industry trends. It
is the one time during the busy year when city staff, consultants, and equipment suppliers representing
the most influential companies in the industry are able to come together to talk shop, build on existing
relationships and establish new ones. Positive feedback was received with high traffic volumes seen on
both days of the Exhibition. Events on the tradeshow floor including the Operations Challenge and the
Totally Wasted Game Show kept the exhibition area busy for the full two days.
The OPCEA Reception held on Monday afternoon from 5 to 7 pm offered two beers from a local brewer,
Amsterdam Brewery. Both the Big Wheel Amber and the 3 Speed Lager were a hit with the attendees as
was the complimentary OPCEA beer glass. The donations raised this year once again went to Water for
People with just over $2,600 raised.
On behalf of OPCEA, I would like to thank the participating OPCEA member companies, conference
delegates, visitors, and volunteers for making this year’s sold out show a huge success. We look forward
to seeing everyone next year at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre.
On behalf of the OPCEA Board I am very sad to announce the passing of Michele (Michael/Mike) Albanese on Sunday January 22nd at the still young age of 58. He leaves behind his beloved wife Helma and children Massimo, Adriano and Isabella, his mother Maria and his sister Laura.
Michele graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida in 1987.
His family, originally from Abruzzo Italy, emigrated to Canada and Michele first worked for an OPCEA member company Metcon. He participated in OPCEA activities on behalf of Metcon and that is how I first met him. He was very impressive individual, bright, serious, very polite and well-mannered and very knowledgeable.
He passed the exams and became a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
Mike stuck out on his own when he founded H2FLOW Equipment in 1992. It was while starting his company he volunteered to serve on the OPCEA board and in 1999 he served as President. In 2006 Michael also started H2FLOW Tanks and Systems, a company specializing in liquid storage solutions.
Michael served on a number of committees of the WEAO representing OPCEA including the Special Events Committee, the Conference Committee and the Seminar Committee. .
His volunteering also included serving as Vice President of the York South Weston Ontario Liberal Association, Trojan Technologies Rep Council Member, Eimco Water Technologies Rep Council Member, the Professional Engineers Ontario – Dufferin Chapter Executive and Newsletter Editor, and as an Engineering Mentor with Skills for Change training for newly arrived foreign engineers.
For his significant contribution to the WEAO Michael was inducted in the 5S Society in 2008.
Although a competitor he was a good friend, as he was to many others in the industry and his presence will be sorely missed.
Brian Gage
OPCEA past President

For example, Wolseley can sign up for an enhanced listing that will list the specs and details of a butterfly valve. If an architect is looking to design a WasteWater Treatment Plant and is need of writing in butterfly valve, then a list of companies would be brought up matching his requirement. This leads to having a products in front of over 10,000 architects without having to reach out to them on a regular basis. Combined with ConstructConnect data, listing your products in MasterSpec will allow you to get in front of architects and engineers earlier, find specific projects where you are specified, and track your success.
This is typically meant for companies that have the ability to sell across Canada and US.
